DISTRICT LIBRARIES AWARDED FEDERAL GRANT

This school year the Silver Lake School Districts fourth grade students will get clued in at their library. The three elementary schools in Kingston, Halifax, and Plympton were awarded a prestigious federal grant. This federal grant was received from the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act and is administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

The $5,000 federal IMLS/LSTA grant will fund the innovative Just the Facts project. The funds will be used to purchase library materials as well as an exciting visit by Detective Readalot on February 29th. This program was designed by the school librarians to take the mystery out of reading non-fiction literature. In Kingston, Mrs. Dallaire has collaborated with the 4th grade teachers on this project which will focus on extracting information from nonfiction trade books, using the subject of plants (4th Grade Science Curriculum) as the focal point.
